Dear Dr. Herbert:

Enclosed please find a Senate Resolution that was passed (44 in favor, 7 opposed, and 2 abstentions) on Thursday, April 20, 2000 at the University Senate meeting. Also enclosed is a list of 270 faculty members from across campus that have petitioned in support of this resolution.

The Senators and petitioning faculty feel that the current list of candidates that was presented to the Presidential Search Advisory Committee April 4, 2000 are not of the AAU caliber that would be expected of a President of the University of Florida. Additionally it is felt that the uncertainties about the governance of higher education in the State of Florida may have compromised the present search.

The University Senate at the University of Florida therefore is calling upon the Board of Regents by resolution to suspend, then extend the present search for a new President.
