March 27, 2003: the Presidential Search Committee
has its second meeting, finalizes the criteria, the position
description, the advertisement, proposes an approach to campus
interviews, discusses ways to reach out to stakeholders, and
lists current nominees, individuals who have declined
nominations, and those who are in the process of being contacted.

March 20, 2003: Trustee Roland Daniels delivered
an update on the Presidential Search to the Faculty Senate.
He mentioned the consulting firm, A. T. Kearney, Inc., that
had been hired to coordinate the search, spoke of the work
of four subcommittees, and encouraged faculty to make
nominations.

February 20, 2003: Trustee Manny Fernandez reviewed
his PowerPoint presentation for the Presidential Search
Committee with the Faculty Senate after the morning meeting
of that committee.

February 20, 2003: First meeting of the Presidential
Search Committee; faculty members on the committee are
Cammy Abernathy, Professor, Materials Science Engineering,
Nancy Mendenhall, Chair, Radiation Oncology, and
Pierre Ramond, Distinguished Professor, Physics. Ramond
was added to additional subcommittees at his request.

January 10, 2003: Board of Trustees appoints Presidential
Search Committee with 5 trustees, 4 faculty, 4 administators,
2 students (one a trustee), 4 other stakeholders. In addition,
President Charles Young, and former President John Lombardi, former
President and Chair of the UF Board of Trustees Marshall Criser
will serve as advisors. The Presidential Search Committee will
not start its work until after January 30.

November 8, 2002: Faculty Senate Delegation meets with
Presidential Search Planning Committee to discuss presidential
criteria.
We gave them the following documents:
The Presidential Search Planning Committee plans to make
recommendations to the Board of Trustees on December 10-11.

October 11, 2002: Presidential Search Planning Committee has
its initial meeting.
The members are the following trustees:
- Manny Fernandez (chair): search firms, criteria
- Carlos Alphonso: committee structure for the search
- Dianna Morgan: communications strategy
Faculty Senate Chair Jean Larson gave them the following document:
- September 5,
2002: President Young tells Board of Trustees that he plans to step
down in the next 30 months, at a time that is best for UF.
