MEMORANDUM:
TO: Deans and Directors
SUBJECT: 2002-2003 University Senate Membership
Attached is an allocation of Senate seats for each college/unit for the 2001-2002 academic year. The allocation is based on the October 13, 1994 Senate reorganization that provides for election of senators regardless of faculty rank.
As stipulated in the Bylaws change approved in the February 2002 Faculty Senate meeting, this year 2/3 of those elected will be for 2-year terms, and 1/3 of those elected will be for 3-year terms. Next year, 1/3 of those elected will be for 2-year terms, and 2/3 will be for 3-year terms. Beginning in the spring of 2004, a staggered 3-year term will be in place for all units.
Constitutionally stipulated time line for senate elections:
(Date not specified) – Administrative officer of each unit constitutes a nominating committee representative of faculty in each major area of interest within the unit. The committee should nominate twice as many candidates as there are seats to be filled. This should be done “as soon as possible after receiving notification of the quota of the unit.”
March 15, 2002 – No later than this date, administrative officer of the unit shall circulate nominee lists and at a meeting of all full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty shall solicit further nominations from the floor.
April 1, 2002 – No later than this date, the unit administrative officer shall incorporate nominations in a ballot and mail it to all full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty in each unit. Tellers composed of academic faculty shall record the vote.
April 15, 2002 – No later than this date, ballots must be returned for counting by the tellers.
Please report the names of the elected senators to Rick Ragan at rragan@ufl.edu or
PO Box 114000, no later than Monday, May 6, 2002. In addition to the names of the senators, we would appreciate receiving a spreadsheet with the following information on each senator: name,
department, PO Box number, rank, expiration of term, email address, and social security number (see attached). This information is needed to set-up a listserv of the senate membership. Thank you.
