PROPOSALS TO ADDRESS UF’S
$16.6m RECURRING BUDGET GAP
UF needs to close a $16.6M recurring budget gap, left over from last year’s state budget cuts. At the September Senate meeting, the administration presented three proposals to help close the gap.
- Retirement Enhancement Program. This program would provide an extra year’s salary (less applicable employment taxes and deductions) in a lump sum to employees who elect to retire by June 30, 2010. To be eligible for this program, you would have to be 65 or older on June 30, 2010 with 6 or more years of applicable service at UF. There are some exclusions (including employees who are currently enrolled in DROP, employees who have previously retired, etc.), and there will be a window to enroll in the program. See the draft “Policy for Retirement Incentive Program” for precise details of the program.
- Summer Pay. Establish a new minimum payment of $5K to faculty members who teach a 3-credit summer course. Payment for 2- and 4-credit courses will be prorated appropriately.
